Intellectuals and scientists started arriving in Mexico in 1938. The Spanish exiles were supported by two agencies: the first was the Immigration Service for Spanish Republicans (SERE - Servicio de Evacuación de Refugiados Españoles). The other was the Committee for Assistance to Spanish Republicans (JARE - Junta de Auxilio a los Republicanos Españoles).
